I'm not sure if Robin and Monkee realise what they have unleashed by inviting me here, actually I just found the front door ajar, wandered in and thought I'd make myself at home - mmm nice snacks in the cupboard.

Who am I? I am Genny from the future! Well, that always impresses monkee...

I'm reporting from Auckland NZ, and unless someone from Invercargill, Antartica, or even Waimate joins the doily of doom, I may just be the southern most doily participant.

However after my feeble participation in the world cup knitalong (typical kiwi, i got drunk on opening night, disappeared entirely for all the matches only to resurface at the final with my declared project only just been started) it's a surprise I'm even allowed near this project. I tell ya, I'm the renegade, the black sheep, the unknown quantity, the dark horse, the one voted most likely to let the group down, the thread killer. Oh well, after all, it is the doily of doom - now thats something I can probably live up to!

Not very artistic, mind you, and I missed a crucial point in my diagram, but here ya go.

I'll start the doily and a few of the lace patterns. What lace patterns I start, I'll write out directions or a chart if the next person wants to follow them. (If that person doesn't like 'em, toss it. Don't want to doom it ya know.) Most of the sections I'll leave blank. It's up to the next person if they want to put a little lace pattern in it or leave it stockinette. And so on it shall go. (This will make sense once it happens, I think.)

To add to the doomed madness, this is done in whatever threads you have. Any colour. If you have partial balls you want to use up, knock yourself out. I can hope that a person doesn't put two horribly clashing colours next to each other, but it's entirely up to the participants.

Doom Doily Approaches!!

This is what we're doing....

Monkee is going to cast on (and hopefully devise a base pattern) for a doily.

After as many rounds as she can handle, she will send the doily and pattern on to you, my friend, who will knit more doily, adding lace stitches as you would like. Just stay within the constraints of the pinwheel base, please. Feel free to add any color size 10 crochet cotton when you run out. Don't forget to take a picture of the growing doily with a cup of your favorite tea sitting upon it and post it here.

Then you will send it on to the next person in line and so on until we run out of volunteers, at which point it will come back to me for bordering and blocking and probably a recircumnavigation of the globe.

And pictures.... lots of pictures.
